Preschool - Kindergarten Overview & Schedule

In our NVS Pre-K and Kindergarten program, we believe that school readiness is built on more than academic skills—it begins with developing strong social-emotional competencies and a love for learning. Our Pre-K/K curriculum is designed to lay a solid foundation of essential skills such as self-regulation, conflict resolution, and decision-making, helping children navigate their school journey with confidence and resilience.

Throughout the year, students explore the changing world around them, from the harvest of pumpkins and apples in the fall, to the magic of snow and gingerbread in winter, the growth of plants and life cycles in spring, and the discovery of ocean creatures and insects just before summer. Each season is explored through hands-on activities, daily nature walks, field trips, stories, and creative arts, encouraging children to develop a deep curiosity about the world. Each day, students work on developing fine and gross motor skills, empathy, collaboration, and independence, while learning to care for the environment and each other. While the general themes of our season-based curriculum guide our activities, we also celebrate and incorporate each child's interests, ensuring that their unique passions are nurtured.

Our academic learning is both play and routine-based. Basic math, reading, science, and writing skills are developed during morning carpet times and are facilitated during play activities. Often, our learning happens outdoors—from spotting letters and numbers formed by sticks to practicing writing words in the mud.

All Pre-K / Kindergarten Students must be over age 3.5 and fully potty trained.
