Neskowin Valley School was founded in 1972 to offer an invigorating education in a
stimulating environment. We serve children and families from a broad range of
social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Neskowin Valley School is a Pre/K through Grade 8 elementary school. NVS is a
non-profit, 501-C3 organization governed by a Board of Trustees. The school is
registered with the Oregon State Board of Education and is a member of the
Oregon Federation of Independent Schools.
The school grounds bordered by Neskowin Creek and surrounded by evergreen
and alder trees, include play structures, grassy areas, a soccer field, sand pile,
fitness course, and a covered play area. The small apple orchard, garden, compost
bin, and wetland all complement the learning environment.

As you enter the building you find yourself in the heart of the school, an open
center room, which houses an inviting fireplace, serving as the location for
traditional all-school gatherings. Two levels of spacious classrooms radiate around
the center room. The kitchen allows for cooking projects and is connected to a
larger multi-purpose room where children eat lunch. This room also provides space
for art, drama, and music and includes a performing arts stage for play productions
and musical programs.
When children enroll at Neskowin Valley School, their families become part of a vital
and caring community; an interaction of all ages. Children have a younger or older
student who becomes their special "buddy." A strong bond of friendship develops as
they exchange notes and artwork, read with one another, and work together on
projects.

Neskowin Valley School is enriched by the daily presence of parents and
grandparents who volunteer in the office, classroom and library. Parents and other
volunteers read with children, share their skills, organize field trips, help with drama
productions, and work on board committees.

Active participation of parents or guardians in their child's education assures a more
successful experience and is essential to the character of the school. All parents
are members of the Parent Association. This group supports special projects and
raises a portion of the operating budget through a variety of fundraising events.
