Beach Clean-Up
This community service connects us with our setting and reinforces our focus on stewardship. Students, staff, and parents participate in Beach Clean-up twice a year (typically
fall and spring) in Neskowin village and beach. It is a fun event that has older and younger students working together.
Fall Sleepover
Whether a campout (for Olders) or a camp-in (for Middles), this event begins the process of building cooperative, respectful and energized learning groups. The sleepovers are
held at the school. Students are involved in the planning, meal preparation, clean-up, and evaluation. Teachers prepare specific learning and teambuilding activities for each class.
Parents participate as over-night chaperons and kitchen supervisors. If you are interested in either role, please contact the classroom teacher.
Family Math and Science Night
This is an evening event held two to three times a year for the entire family to have fun together with math and science activities and games. Using student-designed and student-
led centers, learners of all ages engage in problem-solving activities related to the classrooms’ current studies. Family Math and Science Nights are held in the NVS Center.
Please watch the school calendar and the Voice for the schedule.
Gather’Round
A long NVS tradition, this weekly gathering brings together all of our students, staff and other community members. We gather in the Center for a presentation or activity,
which might feature a class performance or a visitor sharing experiences or expertise. We also use Gather'Rounds for buddy reading and other buddy activities. Please check
the Voice for our Gather'Round schedule.
Grandfriends' Day
This is a time for students to invite grandparents or other relatives or adult friends to be their guests at school. It is a wonderful day when we share our school with many
special visitors and encourage all children to participate. We can match your child up with a Grandfriend from the community if they need one. School is dismissed at 11:30 a.
m. on this day, which occurs on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Grandfriends' Day is coordinated by a parent with help from the office. If you are interested in being the
coordinator, please let the Administrative Assistant know.
MaryHope Reading Day
MaryHope Weir was the grandmother of two NVS alumni. An avid reader and lover of books, she spent many hours (years!) volunteering in our library. During MaryHope
Reading Day, the students spend the day engaged in reading and reading-related activities. They read independently, in small groups, with buddies, and out loud to younger
children. It is a time that all students and teachers enjoy.
Morning Sing
Raising our voices in song has marked our personality since the opening of the school in 1972. Students, staff, parents, and friends sing together at the opening of the day every
week. As with other events, many parents and siblings join Morning Sing. Please check our schedule in the Voice to see the day for Morning Sing.
Neskowin Valley School has a rich tradition of events that define and unite our school community. Through these events we also build relationships with the community and honor the school’s past. Family members are welcome to join the students and staff in all of these events.

Neskowin Valley School and its grounds are available to rent...
The lovely setting is ideal for weddings, classes and other gatherings. Interested parties can contact the school for more information and to reserve dates.
There are two main rooms inside of the building. The fireside central chamber has high ceilings, with exposed beams and seasonal decorations created by the students of NVS.
The acoustics are very good, and it is an intimate setting ideal for a wedding ceremony.
The second room is much larger, and can accommodate up to 100 guests comfortably. This room is informal, also with very high ceilings, and is ideally suited for a wedding
reception, holiday gathering, or family reunion.
Outdoors offers a variety of excellent gathering opportunities, with a covered athletic court, playground equipment, a full-sized soccer field, and much more. Walking the
grounds will fill your mind with memories of youth and playful dreams. The NVS grounds are tranquil, lovely, and full of possibility for your cherished events. We strongly
